LaFrances Williams Stephens

LaFrances Williams  Stephens    the daughter of the late Lewis Edward and Maud  Randolph Williams  transitioned on June 1, 2019. She joins her paternal  grandmother Mrs. Jimmie Williams  and maternal grandparents Perman and Alice Randolph Sr. and sisters Joan Dell Williams  Flemming  and Regina Williams  Hudson.

Celebrating her life are husband  Cornelius, daughters Marian, Bonita,

and Canary, son-in-law David, grandchildren Crystal and Wylder, aunt Lucille, sister in law Ethel, God sons Edmund and Anthony, cousins, coworkers and friends.

LaFrances attended Bethune Cookman College  now Bethune Cookman University  Daytona  Beach, Florida(Ciass of 1953), Tuskegee Institute now Tuskegee University  Tuskegee, Alabama (Class of 1962), Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan. She was most proud of graduating from  Douglass High School of Live Oak, Florida (Class of

1948). While  attending Bethune, LaFrances was the work study student of the late Dr. Mary Mcleod Bethune as a maid, cleaning  campus guest houses for visiting  dignitaries such as the former  first lady of the United States of America Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt.

Mrs. Stephens retired  from  the Suwannee County  School System with

30 years of service as an Educator. Mrs. Stephens was a member  of many civic organizations during her youth,  a trail blazer in her own right.   Mrs. Stephens later years were spent as a resident  of Suwannee Hea!thcare and Rehabilitation  Center of Live Oak.

Family and Friends are asked to wear white  at the Celebration of Life Service to be held at African Missionary Baptist Church 509 Walker Ave. Live Oak, Florida Rev. Alex Fountain, Pastor Minister Sandra Fountain, First Lady at 11:00 am Saturday, June 8, 2019.  Services are being provided by Thomas Funeral Home.
